We had SO much fun celebrating yellow day! From sharing and graphing our yellow objects to reading books that helped us identify yellow things to making our very own freshly squeezed yellow lemonade, our day was colored in yellow.
Kindergarten scientists explored the "Discovery Courtyard" right outside of our classroom door in search of living and non-living things. We learned scientists use their sense of sight to make observations. Our eyes helped us find living trees, plants, grass, butterflies, ants, fish, and even a turtle! We also saw non-living things like rocks, a bridge, and sand. We had a great conversation about water- we knew that it can move and sort of grow (get bigger), but we decided it was non-living because it doesn't breathe. The kinders recorded their observations by drawing and labeling living and non-living things on their clipboards. Oh, how much fun! We ended our week reading about a favorite character, Little Critter, and his Pet in the book Just Me and My Pet by Mercer Meyer. We discussed how pets are living things because they have needs. The kinders shared all about their own pets at home or about pets they wish they could have. After all of that pet talk, it was time to make some pets of our own! The kiddos got to work making pet ROCKS- don't worry parents, these pets are non-living and very low maintenance (we hope!). The kinders named their pet rocks, drew pictures of their new pets, and discussed reasons why their pet rocks were non-living. I hope these critters are enjoying their new homes!
