On Monday, we wrapped up our study of the five senses by learning more about the sense of taste. I think this was our favorite sense of all! First, the kinders practiced saying the words taste, mouth, and tongue. We really loved showing Ms. Flanary our tongues when she asked what body part we use to help us with our sense of taste! :) Check out the song about taste from Mr. R's Songs: | |
Starburst
The kinders started out the tasting on a "sweet" note by trying a candy Starburst. It was hard not to describe this special treat without saying "yum" or "good" but the little scientists decided the Starburst tasted sweet.
Pretzel
Next we tasted a pretzel and described the pretzel as salty. Awesome vocabulary!
Lemon
After the pretzel, most kindergartners were willing to taste a small piece of lemon. We found that lemons taste sour! Some of us like the lemons and some did not but we all agreed to use our new science word, sour, to describe that taste.
Grapefruit Juice
We ended our taste experimenting with a bitter taste in our mouths after tasting plain grapefruit juice. I was so impressed by the number of kiddos who actually tried it! This was one of the few times most of us (including myself) have tasted something bitter and we decided that was probably because bitter things don't taste good to most people.
What have you tasted today?
