1. Read the pictures
2. Read the words (or letters)
3. Retell a familiar story
And even built our independent reading stamina up to 7 minutes. Woo hoo! Last week we worked on our writing stamina.
We start with the "why?". Why do kinders want to work on writing?
Next we find out what we can use and what we would look like while we are writing. Since we've been having lots of fun with ABC Bootcamp, practicing writing letters we know has been super exciting. During word work, kinders can practice writing letters with a variety of materials: salt trays, gel bags, white boards, and magnadoodles.
Another way kinders can work on writing is by labeling pictures. This type of writing not only helps us to form letters, but also helps us apply letter sounds we know or helps us expand our vocabularies with word cards. How do we learn about labeling? Well, we label Ms. Flanary, of course! The kids were ROLLING on the floor laughing when my head got labeled! They were also reading, thinking about letters and letter sounds, and labeling their teacher at the same time. :) |
