We had so much fun learning our first "Purple Poem" this week. We practiced chanting "Kindergarten Cheer" everywhere we went- in the classroom, lunch line, and hallway. The words to our new favorite chant were displayed on the SMARTBoard. Together we discussed what words were and counted the number of words in the poem. Kindergartners practiced coming to the board to touch each word of the poem while everyone recited the chant. We are on our way to becoming readers!
Each kinder had a chance to pick their very own reading pointer and practice reciting and tracking the words of "Kindergarten Cheer" with a teacher. After some reading fun, each kiddo drew a picture to match the meaning of their poem. Check out their binders this weekend to see their sweet illustrations! Everyone was so excited to be able to take home their new Purple Poetry binder to share with their families. Please help your child start to become a confident, successful reader by practicing this poem with them. Look for the informational pages in the front of your child's binder to learn about ways to use the collection of poems. Please return poetry binders on Monday.
Although the weather was super hot for the first week of school, we didn't let that stop us from enjoying some time outside on the playground!
We will use unifix cubes throughout our mathematical journey this year in kindergarten. Allowing the kiddos time to explore on their own will help them have a better understanding and focus with the manipulatives throughout the year.
