We have officially kicked off our kindergarten journey last week and it was AMAZING! I was so happy to meet all of the new kinders. They were filled with smiles, energy, and enthusiasm to learn! Take a peak at the first day photos of all of our new friends I was able to sneak in:
We took a lot of time this week getting to know one another and exploring our classroom and school. Take a look at these kiddos exploring in our classroom learning zones!
On the first day of school, we were introduced to the discovery table, engineer tubs, and writing island. Later in the week we put Lego table, big blocks, and housekeeping into action. These learning zones help foster independent learning choices and social skills while incorporating all of the major subject areas such as math, science, social studies, and language arts. My favorite part of the day is spending one-on-one time with each child at their learning zone.
We also made connections to the story and shared ways we got ready to start kindergarten. The kiddos are working on illustrating and writing/dictating ways they got ready for kindergarten to be displayed in the hallway. Stop by later in the week to see if they are up for you to see!
In math, we learned all about our classroom calendar and several of our friends got to become the "Calendar Captain" this week. We also began exploring some of the manipulatives we will use to help us with our kindergarten math concepts later on in the year. We spend time discussing tools versus toys and decided to try our best to use the math manipulatives as tools because we all want to learn more this year!
