Kinders in room B32 have been working hard to expand their knowledge of the alphabet by focusing on one letter each day. We started the second week of school and are nearly half way through the alphabet!
Each day we practice saying the letter sound which can sometimes be a little tricky. Our tongues don't always do what we need them to do or what we're used to them doing when we say words! Then we find out what the letter looks like and the name of the letter that makes the sounds that we hear. Kinders have so much fun describing what types of lines they see in the letters- tall sticks, short sticks, crooked lines, bounces, and magic Cs! The best part is pretending to be the lines and lay on the floor to create the letters.
As a class, we discuss words that begin with our letter sound and Ms. Flanary illustrates the words to create a circle map where all of our ideas are collected. Realizing friends in our class can go on our circle map is always fun! Our circle maps also provide more practice in naming the letter sounds and identifying the letter that spells the sound. The kinders practice tracing the letter in the air while Ms. Flanary writes the letter on the circle map. | |
Other ways we have shown our understanding has been by writing on white boards, shaving cream, playdough cutters, and creating letter crowns. We love letters!
